Description:   A vulnerability was reported in VMware ESX/ESXi. A local user can obtain elevated privileges on the target host and guest system.

A local user can exploit a memory allocation flaw in the 'VMCI.SYS' Virtual Machine Communication Interface (VMCI) driver to gain elevated privileges on the guest and host operating systems.

Windows-based guest and host systems are affected.

Derek Soeder of Cylance, Inc. and Kostya Kortchinsky of Microsoft separately reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A local user can obtain elevated privileges on the target host and guest system.
Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix.
