Description:   Several vulnerabilities were reported in Wireshark. A remote user can cause denial of service conditions. A remote user may be able to cause arbitrary code to be executed.

A remote user can create a specially crafted pcap-ng file that, when loaded by the target user, will free an uninitialized pointer and potentially execute arbitrary code [CVE-2011-0538]. Huzaifa Sidhpurwala of the Red Hat Security Response Team reported this vulnerability.

A remote user can create a specially crafted Nokia DCT3 file that, when loaded by the target user, will trigger a buffer overflow and potentially execute arbitrary code [CVE-2011-0713].

A remote user can send a specially crafted 6LoWPAN to cause the target service to crash when running on 32-bit systems. Paul Makowski of SEI/CERT reported this vulnerability [CVE-2011-1138]. Versions 1.4.0 to 1.4.3 are affected.

A remote user can send specially crafted LDAP and SMB data to trigger a stack overflow [CVE-2011-1140]. joernchen of Phenoelit reported this vulnerability. Versions 1.0.x are also affected.

A remote user can send specially crafted LDP Filter strings to consume excessive memory on the target system [CVE-2011-1141]. Xiaopeng Zhang of Fortinet's Fortiguard Labs reported this vulnerability. Versions 1.0.x are also affected.

A specially crafted pcap-ng file can trigger an application crash [CVE-2011-1139].

Specially crafted ASN.1 CHOICE values can trigger an infinite loop in in the BER dissector [CVE-2011-1142].

A specially crafted pcap file can trigger a crash in the NTLMSSP dissector [CVE-2011-1143].

Impact:   A remote user can cause the target service to crash or consume excessive memory.

A remote user may be able to cause arbitrary code to be executed.

Solution:   Red Hat has issued a fix for CVE-2011-0538, CVE-2011-0713, CVE-2011-1139, CVE-2011-1140, and CVE-2011-1141.

1. Summary:

Updated wireshark packages that fix multiple security issues are now
available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.

The Red Hat Security Response Team has rated this update as having moderate

3. Description:

Wireshark is a program for monitoring network traffic. Wireshark was
previously known as Ethereal.

A heap-based buffer overflow flaw was found in the Wireshark MAC-LTE
dissector. If Wireshark read a malformed packet off a network or opened a
malicious dump file, it could crash or, possibly, execute arbitrary code as
the user running Wireshark. (CVE-2011-0444)

A heap-based buffer overflow flaw was found in the way Wireshark processed
signaling traces generated by the Gammu utility on Nokia DCT3 phones
running in Netmonitor mode. If Wireshark opened a specially-crafted capture
file, it could crash or, possibly, execute arbitrary code as the user
running Wireshark. (CVE-2011-0713)

Several denial of service flaws were found in Wireshark. Wireshark could
crash or stop responding if it read a malformed packet off a network, or
opened a malicious dump file. (CVE-2011-0538, CVE-2011-1139, CVE-2011-1140,
CVE-2011-1141)

Users of Wireshark should upgrade to these updated packages, which contain
Wireshark version 1.2.15, and resolve these issues. All running instances
of Wireshark must be restarted for the update to take effect.
