Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Xerox WorkCentre and WorkCentre Pro. A remote user can execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The web user interface does not properly validate the user-supplied hostname parameter. A remote user can send specially crafted data to bypass authentication and execute arbitrary code on the target system. The code will run with the privileges of the target service.

The vulnerability resides in the ESS/ Network Controller and MicroServer Web Server.

WorkCentre models 232, 238, 245, 255, 265, and 275 are affected. WorkCentre Pro models 232, 238, 245, 255, 265, and 275 are affected.

The WorkCentre 7655 and 7665 series products are not affected.

The vendor credits Brendan O'Connor with reporting similar vulnerabilities.

Impact:   A remote user can execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Solution:   On November 30, 2006, the vendor issued a new advisory indicating that the following additional models of the WorkCentre are affected by this vulnerability:

WorkCentre M35, M45, M55, M165, M175
WorkCentre Pro 35, 45, 55, 65, 75, 90, 165, 175, C32, C40, C2128, C2636, C3545
