A vulnerability was reported in WS_FTP. A remote authenticated user can execute arbitrary code on the target system.|
A remote authenticated user can send specially crafted 'XCRC', 'XSHA1', and 'XMD5' command parameters to trigger a stack overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system. The code will run with the privileges of the target service.
An 'anonymous' FTP user can also exploit this flaw.
The vendor was notified on September 1, 2006.

This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on
vulnerable installations of Ipswitch WS_FTP Server. Anonymous access or
authentication is required to exploit this vulnerability.
The specific flaw exists due to a lack of bounds checking during the
parsing of long string arguments to the 'XCRC', 'XSHA1' and 'XMD5'
commands leading to a stack overflow vulnerability. Exploitation
requires valid or anonymous FTP server credentials.
