Description:   A vulnerability was reported in IBM's AIX operating system in muxatmd. A local user can obtain elevated privileges.

A local user can invoke muxatmd to trigger a buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code with root privileges.

David Litchfield of NGS Software reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A local user can obtain root privileges.
Solution:   IBM plans to issue the following fixes:

APAR number for AIX 5.1.0: IY78221 (available approx. 01/30/06)
APAR number for AIX 5.2.0: IY78222 (available approx. 01/30/06)
APAR number for AIX 5.3.0: IY78223 (available approx. 01/30/06)
