Updated:  Jun 27 2005
Original Entry Date:  Jun 2 2005

Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes
Version(s): RADEXECD.EXE versions 3.1.2.0 and 3.1.0.0.
Description:   A vulnerability was reported in HP OpenView Radia. A remote user can execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The RADEXECD component contains several buffer overflows. A remote user can send a specially crafted command to the RADEXECD process to overflow one of several 512-byte buffers in the nvd_exec function. Arbitrary code can be executed on the target system with the privileges of the RADEXECD process.

Commands are of the following format:

<callback port>\0<username>\0<password>\0<command>\0

In typical configurations, a username of 'user' and a password of 'pass' will work for exploitation.

A demonstration exploit command is of the following format:

<callback port>\0<username>\0<password>\0
"LIST " . (0x90 x <offset>) . <ret_addr> . "." . <shellcode>

The vendor was notified on May 3, 2005.
