SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1014007
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1014007
CVE Reference:   GENERIC-MAP-NOMATCH   (Links to External Site)
Date:  May 19 2005
Impact:   Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, User access via network
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes
Version(s): prior to 0.8.1
Description:   Some vulnerabilities were reported in Serendipity. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks. A remote authenticated user can upload unauthorized files.

The 'templatedropdown' and 'shoutbox' plugins do not properly validate user-supplied input. A remote user can cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the Serendipity software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A remote authenticated user can upload special files to the target system. The impact was not specified.

Impact:   A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site running the Serendipity software, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A remote authenticated user can upload "special" files to the target system.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fixed version (0.8.1), available at:

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=75065
