PROMS Input Validation Holes Permit SQL Injection and Cross-Site Scripting Attacks
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1013992
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1013992
CVE Reference:   GENERIC-MAP-NOMATCH   (Links to External Site)
Date:  May 18 2005
Impact:   Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of system information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes
Version(s): prior to 0.11
Description:   Several vulnerabilities were reported in PROMS. A user can inject SQL commands and conduct cross-site scripting attacks.

Several user-supplied parameters are not properly validated before being used to compose SQL queries. A remote user may be able to inject SQL commands to be executed on the underlying database.

Some fields are not properly validated to filter out HTML entities. A user can create specially crafted input that, when viewed by a target user, will cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the PROMS software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

An unauthorized remote user can view and modify the list of project members.

The vendor disclosed these vulnerabilities.

Impact:   A user may be able to execute SQL commands on the underlying database.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fixed version (0.11), available at:
