Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Windows Media Player. A remote user may be able to redirect the target user's player to an arbitrary web site.

A remote user can create a specially crafted media file that, when loaded by the target user, will launch of a Web site without further user interaction.

Certain types of Windows Media Digital Rights Management (WMDRM)-protected content can cause the target user's Windows Media Player to redirect to a specified web page. This may occur even if the target user's player has the "Acquire licenses automatically for protected content" checkbox de-selected under the privacy options.

This may allow a remote user to attempt social engineering efforts to trick the target user into performing non-secure actions.

Impact:   A remote user may be able to redirect the target user's player to an arbitrary web site.
Solution:   The vendor has issued the following fixes:

Windows Media Player 10

Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003
