PhotoPost Pro 'showgallery.php' Input Validation Holes Permit SQL Injection and Cross-Site Scripting Attacks
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1012762
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1012762
CVE Reference:   GENERIC-MAP-NOMATCH   (Links to External Site)
Updated:  Jan 5 2005
Original Entry Date:  Jan 4 2005
Impact:   Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of system information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information, User access via network
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes  Exploit Included:  Yes
Version(s): prior to 4.86
Description:   Several input validation vulnerabilities were reported in PhotoPost Pro. A remote user can inject SQL commands. A remote user can also conduct cross-site scripting attacks.

James Bercegay of the GulfTech Security Research Team reported that the 'showgallery.php' script does not properly validate user-supplied input. A remote user can supply a specially crafted URL to execute SQL commands on the underlying database.

A demonstration exploit URL is of the following form:

http://[target]/path/showgallery.php?cat=[INT][SQL]
http://[target]/path/showgallery.php?ppuser=[INT][SQL]&cat=[INT]

A demonstration exploit URL is provided:

http://[target]/path/showgallery.php?ppuser=-2'%20UNION%20SELECT%200,email, 0,0,0,0,0,0%20FROM%20user%20WHERE%20userid='1&cat=500

A remote user can also create a specially crafted URL that, when loaded by a target user, will cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the PhotoPost Pro software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

Some demonstration exploit URLs are provided:

http://[target]/path/showgallery.php?cat=[INT]&page=[XSS]
http://[target]/path/showgallery.php?si=[XSS]
http://[target]/path/showgallery.php?cat=[INT][XSS]
http://[target]/path/showgallery.php?ppuser=[INT]&cat=[INT][XSS]

The original advisory is available at:

http://www.gulftech.org/?node=research&article_id=00063-01032005

Impact:   A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site running the PhotoPost Pro software, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A remote user can inject SQL commands.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fixed version (4.86).
