Date:  Feb 28 2004
Impact:   Execution of arbitrary code via local system, User access via local system
Exploit Included:  Yes
Version(s): 1.02
Description:   Several buffer overflow vulnerabilities were reported in Xsok. A local user can gain elevated privileges on the target system.

In January 2004, 0x333 Outsiders Security Labs reported that a local user can supply a specially crafted '-xsokdir' command line parameter to trigger a buffer overflow in Xsok and execute arbitrary code. It is also reported that a local user can set a specially crafted LANG environment variable to trigger a buffer overflow.

Because Xsok is configured with set group id (setgid) games on some platforms, a local user may be able to gain elevated privileges on the target system.
