Description:   A vulnerability was reported in the X-CD-Roast CD creation application. A local user may be able to gain elevated privileges.

It is reported that a local user can create a symbolic link (symlink) from a critical file on the system to a file to be written by X-CD-Roast. Then, when a target user invokes X-CD-Roast and the application writes to the file, the symlinked file will be overwritten with the privileges of the target user.

Stefan Nordhausen is credited with reporting this flaw.

Impact:   A local user may be able to cause a target user to overwrite files with the privileges of the target user.
Solution:   The vendor has released a fixed version (0.98alpha15), available at:
