Description:   Caldera reported a vulnerability in Open UNIX and UnixWare ppp communication utilities. Local users can obtain root level privileges.

It is reported that there is a buffer overflow in several of the ppp utilities that are linked to /usr/bin/pppattach. A local user could trigger the vulnerability to execute arbitrary code to be executed with ADMN privileges.

The file /usr/bin/pppattach is affected.

Impact:   A local user could gain root level privileges on the system.
Solution:   The vendor has provided a fix and a workaround. As a workaround, the vendor suggest that if you do not use ppp, you can remove the execute and/or setuid permissions from /usr/bin/pppattach.
