Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Symantec Mail Security. A remote user can execute arbitrary code on the target system.

A remote user can send specially crafted data to trigger a buffer overflow in the 3rd party Autonomy KeyView module and execute arbitrary code on the target system. The code will run with the privileges of the target service.

On the Symantec Mail Security (SMS) for SMTP and SMS Appliance, the overflow will result in a child process crash.

The following models are affected:

Symantec Mail Security for Domino 7.5.5.32, 7.5.4.29, 7.5.3.25
Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange 5.0.11, 5.0.10
Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange 6.0.7, 6.0.6
Symantec Mail Security for SMTP 5.0.x
Symantec Mail Security Appliance/ Symantec BrightMail Appliance 5.0.x and later
Symantec BrightMail Appliance

An anonymous researcher reported this vulnerability via iDefense.

Impact:   A remote user can execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Solution:   The vendor has issued the following fixes.

Symantec Mail Security for Domino: 7.5.6

Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange: 5.0.12

Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange: 6.0.8

Symantec Mail Security for SMTP 5.0.x: Apply Patch Level 201

Symantec Mail Security Appliance/ Symantec BrightMail Appliance: Upgrade to Bright Mail Appliance 8.0.0

Symantec BrightMail Appliance: Upgrade to Bright Mail Appliance 8.0.0
