Description:   Two vulnerabilities were reported in Apple Directory Services. A user can determine valid usernames. A local user can obtain the server password.

A user with access to the login window can supply wildcard characters in the username field to potentially cause a list of user names from Active Directory to be displayed [CVE-2008-2329]. The IT Department of the West Seneca Central School District reported this vulnerability.

A local user can exploit a flaw in slapconfig to cause the system administrator's password to be written to a file controlled by the local user when the system administrator runs slapconfig [CVE-2008-2330].

Impact:   A user with access to the login window can determine valid usernames.

A local user can obtain the server password in certain cases.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix as part of Mac OS X v10.5.5 and Security Update 2008-006, available from the Software Update pane in System Preferences, or Apple's Software Downloads web site at:

http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/

The Software Update utility will present the update that applies to your system configuration. Only one is needed, either Mac OS X v10.5.5 or Security Update 2008-006.
