Description:
Two vulnerabilities were reported in Mac OS X Image Capture. A local user can view files and obtain elevated privileges on the target system.
A local user can load a specially crafted URL to exploit a path traversal flaw in the Image Capture embedded web server and obtain files on the target system [CVE-2008-1571].
The system uses unsafe temporary files [CVE-2008-1572]. A local user can cause files to be overwritten by a target user with the privileges of the target user. A local user can also access the contents of images being resized by the target user.
Systems running Mac OS X v10.5 and later are not affected by either of these vulnerabilities.

A local user can obtain elevated privileges on the target system.

Solution:
The vendor has issued a fix as part of Security Update 2008-003 and Mac OS X v10.5.3, available from the Software Update pane in System Preferences, or Apple's Software Downloads web site at:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
The Software Update utility will present the update that applies to your system configuration. Only one is needed, either Security Update 2008-003 or Mac OS X v10.5.3.

Description: A path traversal issue exists in Image Capture's
embedded web server. This may lead to the disclosure of local files
on the server system. This update addresses the issue through
improved URL handling. This issue does not affect systems running Mac
OS X v10.5 or later.
