Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Symantec Mail Security in the Autonomy KeyView module. A remote user can cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target system.

A remote user can send an e-mail message with a specially crafted attachment that, when processed by the target application, will trigger a buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerabilities reside in the underlying Autonomy KeyView module.

The following file types are affected:

* Adobe Acrobat FrameMaker (.mif)
* Ami Pro (.sam)
* Applix Words (.aw)
* Applix Presents (.ag)
* Dynamic Link Library (.dll)
* FrameMaker (.mif)
* Microsoft Rich Text Format (.rtf)
* Microsoft Word - (.doc)
* Microsoft Word for DOS (.doc)
* Portable Executable (.exe)
* WordPerfect (.wpd)

Secunia reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user can create a file that, when processed by the target application, will execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Solution:   The vendor has issued the following fixes.

For Symantec Mail Security for SMTP 5.0.0: Upgrade to 5.0.1 and apply patch 182
For Symantec Mail Security for SMTP 5.0.1: Apply Patch 182
For Symantec Mail Security Appliance 5.0.x: Update to 5.0.0-36 or later

The vendor is working on a fix for:

Symantec Mail Security for Domino 7.5
Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange 5.0
