CVE Reference:   CVE-2006-2161   (Links to External Site)
Date:  May 11 2006
Impact:   Execution of arbitrary code via network, User access via network
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes
Version(s): prior to 1.79.04.00
Description:   A vulnerability was reported in TZipBuilder. A remote user can cause arbitrary code to be executeed on the target user's system.

The code will run with the privileges of the target user.

The vendor was notified on May 3, 2006.

Tan Chew Keong of Secunia Research discovered this vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user can create an archive that, when listed by the target user, will cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target user's system.

3) Description of Vulnerability

Secunia Research has discovered a vulnerability in TZipBuilder, which
can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system.

The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error when listing the
contents of a ZIP archive that contains a file with an overly long
filename. This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow
when a specially crafted ZIP archive is opened.

Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code with the
privileges of an application that uses the library.
