Category:   Application (Instant Messaging/IRC/Chat)  >   SleeperChat Vendors:   SleeperChat
SleeperChat Input Validation Hole Permits Cross-Site Scripting Attacks
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1015525
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1015525
CVE Reference:   GENERIC-MAP-NOMATCH   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Jan 23 2006
Impact:   Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information
Exploit Included:  Yes
Version(s): 0.3f and prior versions
Description:   benozor77 from hackologie.tk reported some vulnerabilities in SleeperChat. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks. A remote user can also post anonymous messages.

The 'index.php' script does not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied input in the 'pseudo' parameter before displaying the input. A remote user can create a specially crafted URL that, when loaded by a target user, will cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the SleeperChat software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A demonstration exploit URL is provided:

http://[target]/chat/index.php?pseudo=%3E%3Cscript%3Ealert(navigator.appVersion)%3C/script%3E&txtlen=500&smiley=1

A remote user can invoke 'chat_no.php' with arbitrary text in the 'txt' parameter to post arbitrary text without specifying their username.

The 'chat_if.php' script is also affected.

Impact:   A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site running the SleeperChat software, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.
Solution:   No solution was available at the time of this entry.

Cause:   Input validation error
Underlying OS:   Linux (Any), UNIX (Any), Windows (Any)

Message History:   None.

Subject:  Multiples vulnerabilities in SleeperChat

Bonjour/Bonsoir,

_ SleeperChat 0.3f _
__ __
______________

*************************************
Presentation:

fichier index.php

Exemple:
http://www.sitevuln.com/chat/index.php?pseudo=%3E%3Cscript%3Ealert(navigator.appVersion)%3C/script%3E&txtlen=500&smiley=1

**************************
Multiples bypass de script:

index.php:

veut.

chat_if.php:
Meme probleme que pour le fichier chat_no.php.
