Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Cisco ASA. A remote user can cause the target system to reload.

A remote user can return a specially crafted DNS response to the target system to trigger a flaw in the processing of DNS response messages and cause the target system to reload or corrupt information in the target system's local DNS cache.

Systems configured in routed or transparent firewall mode and single or multiple context mode are affected.

The following models are affected:

ASA 1000V Cloud Firewall
ASA 5500 Series Adaptive Security Appliances
ASA 5500-X Series Next-Generation Firewalls
ASA Services Module for Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Switches and Cisco 7600 Series Routers
Adaptive Security Virtual Appliance (ASAv)
Firepower 9300 ASA Security Module
ISA 3000 Industrial Security Appliance

The vendor has assigned bug ID CSCvb40898 to this vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user can cause the target system to reload or corrupt information in the target system's local DNS cache.
Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (9.1(7.12), 9.2(4.18), 9.4(3.12), 9.5(3.2), 9.6(2.2)).
