NetComm NB16WV-02 Router Input Validation Flaw Lets Remote Users Conduct Cross-Site Scripting Attacks
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1038171
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1038171
CVE Reference:   CVE-2017-5900   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Mar 31 2017
Impact:   Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information
Vendor Confirmed:  Yes  Exploit Included:  Yes
Version(s): Model NB16WV-02, version NB16WV_R0.09
Description:   A vulnerability was reported in the NetComm NB16WV-02 Router. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks.

The interface does not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied input before displaying the input. A remote user can create a specially crafted URL that, when loaded by a target authenticated user, will cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the NetComm Router interface and will run in the security context of the interface. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the interface, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the interface, or take actions on the interface acting as the target user.

A demonstration exploit URL is provided:

http://[target]/hdd.htm?rc=&S801F0334=/dkmvc%3C/script
%3E%3Cscript%3Ealert%28String.fromCharCode%28101,90,101,90%29
%29%3C/script%3Ed29f

Luke Symons reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the NetComm Router interface, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the interface, or take actions on the interface acting as the target user.
Solution:   No solution was available at the time of this entry.

The vendor plans to issue a fix.
