Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Autodesk Backburner. A remote user can execute arbitrary code on the target system. A remote user can cause denial of service conditions on the target system.

A remote user can send specially crafted data to the Backburner Manager process on TCP or UDP port 3234 to trigger a buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code or cause denial of service conditions on the target system.

[Editor's note: The affected service allows remote code execution without authentication by design, as described in Alert ID 1018686 (CVE-2007-4749). The vendor has described the newly reported buffer overflow (CVE-2016-2344) as "not an issue" because of the by-design intention of the service.]

Impact:   A remote user can execute arbitrary code or cause denial of service conditions on the target system.
Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (2018).
