Date:  Mar 7 2017
Impact:   Modification of system information, Modification of user information, User access via local system
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes

Description:   Two vulnerabilities were reported in Symantec Endpoint Protection. A local user can obtain elevated privileges on the target system. A remote user can modify data on the target system in certain cases.

A local user can run a specially crafted executable file to trigger an input validation flaw in the SymEvent Driver and cause the target system to crash or, on on 64-bit systems, execute arbitrary code with kernel-level privileges [CVE-2016-9093].

A remote user can create a specially crafted file that, when quarantined by the target application and when the quarantine logs are exported in '.CSV' format by the target user, will cause a formula to be injected into the exported file [CVE-2016-9094].

Alexandre GAZET of Air Bus Group (via Air Bus Group CERT) reported the privilege escalation vulnerability. Raghav Bisht reported the formula injection vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user can modify data on the target system.

A local user can obtain elevated privileges on the target system.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (12.1 RU6 MP7 [CVE-2016-9093 only], 14.0 MP1).
