Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Xen. A local user on the guest system can cause denial of service conditions on the host system. A local user on the guest system can gain elevated privileges on the host system.

A local user on the guest system can trigger an integer overflow in the x86 shadow pagetable code.

On an HVM guest configured to use shadow pagetables, the local user can cause the target host system to crash.

On a PV guest configured to use shadow pagetables, the local user can cause the target host system to crash or potentially execute arbitrary code.

ARM-based systems are not affected.

Ling Liu and Yihan Lian of the Cloud Security Team, Qihoo 360, reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A local user on the guest system can cause denial of service conditions on the host system.

A local user on the guest system may be able to gain elevated privileges on the host system.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (xsa173-4.3.patch, xsa173-4.4.patch, xsa173-4.5.patch, and xsa173-4.6.patch).
