SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1034480
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1034480
CVE Reference:   CVE-2015-8551, CVE-2015-8552   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Dec 17 2015
Impact:   Denial of service via local system
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes

Description:   Two vulnerabilities were reported in Xen. A local user can consume excessive disk space on the target system. A local user on the guest system can cause denial of service conditions on the host system.

The PCI backend driver does not properly validate device state.

A local user on the guest system can send a sequence of specially crafted XEN_PCI_OP_* calls to trigger a null pointer error in the generic MSI code and cause the target system to crash [CVE-2015-8551].

A local user on the guest system can send a continuous stream of XEN_PCI_OP_enable_msi calls to cause a stream of WARN() messages to consume excessive disk space on the target system [CVE-2015-8552].

x86 systems are affected. ARM systems are not affected.

Konrad Rzeszutek Wilk of Oracle reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A local user can consume excessive disk resources on the target system.

A local user on the guest system can cause denial of service conditions on the host system.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix.

The vendor's advisory is available at:
