Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Cisco IOS-XE. A remote user can consume excessive CPU resources on the target system.

A remote user can send a series of specially crafted fragmented IPv4 or IPv6 packets to the target device to trigger an ATTN-3-SYNC_TIMEOUT error message and consume excessive CPU resources on the target device, preventing network traffic from being processed.

Cisco IOS-XE devices rate-limit error messages to once every 60 seconds by default.

The vendor has assigned bug ID CSCuo37957 to this vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user can consume excessive CPU resources on the target device, preventing network traffic from being processed.
Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix.
