Category:   Application (Generic)  >   eGroupWare Vendors:   eGroupWare.org
eGroupWare Flaws Permit Cross-Site Scripting, SQL Injection, Local File Include, and URL Redirection Attacks
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1026994
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1026994
CVE Reference:   CVE-2011-4948, CVE-2011-4949, CVE-2011-4950, CVE-2011-4951   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Apr 30 2012
Impact:   Disclosure of authentication information, Disclosure of system information, Disclosure of user information, Execution of arbitrary code via network, Modification of user information, User access via network
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes
Version(s): 1.8.001; possibly other versions
Description:   A vulnerability was reported in eGroupWare. A remote user can include and execute arbitrary code on the target system. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks. A remote user can inject SQL commands.

A remote user can supply a specially crafted URL to cause the target system to include and execute arbitrary PHP code from a file on the target file system [CVE-2011-4948]. The PHP code, including operating system commands, will run with the privileges of the target web service.

Several scripts do not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied input before displaying the input. A remote user can cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser [CVE-2011-4950]. The code will originate from the site running the eGroupWare software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A remote user can supply a specially crafted parameter value to execute SQL commands on the underlying database [CVE-2011-4949].

A demonstration exploit URL is provided:

http://[target]/egroupware/phpgwapi/js/dhtmlxtree/samples/with_db/loaddetails.php?id=0%20and%201=0%20UNION%20SELECT%20'%3C?php%20system($_GET[%22CMD%22]);%20?%3E','',''%20FROM%20dual%20INTO%20OUTFILE%20'../../htdocs/shell.php';%23

A remote user can cause the target user's browser to be redirected to an arbitrary URL [CVE-2011-4951].

John Leitch from AutoSec Tools reported these vulnerabilities.

Impact:   A remote user can execute arbitrary PHP code from a file located on the target system with the privileges of the target web service.

A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site running the eGroupWare software, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A remote user can execute SQL commands on the underlying database.

A remote user can cause the target user's browser to redirect to an arbitrary site.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix (1.8.001.20110805; in August 2011).

The vendor's advisory is available at:

Vendor URL:  www.egroupware.org/ (Links to External Site)
Cause:   Input validation error, State error
Underlying OS:   Linux (Any), UNIX (Any), Windows (Any)
