Description:
Several vulnerabilities were reported in Splunk. A remote authenticated user can execute arbitrary code on the target system. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks. A remote authenticated user can view files on the target system.
SplunkWeb does not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied input before displaying the input [CVE-2011-4778]. A remote user can create a specially crafted URL that, when loaded by a target user, will cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the SplunkWeb software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.
Emmanuel Bouillon of the NATO C3 Agency reported this vulnerability.
A remote authenticated admin user can submit a specially crafted mappy search command to inject and execute arbitrary python code on the target system [CVE-2011-4642]. The code will run with the privileges of the target SplunkWeb service, which is System privileges on Windows and root privileges on Linux.
Gary Oleary-Steele reported this vulnerability.
A remote authenticated user can supply a specially crafted request to the Splunk Web and the Splunkd HTTP Server to view potentially sensitive Splunk files [CVE-2011-4643].
Gary Oleary-Steele reported this vulnerability.
