Root access via network
|
Fix Available: Yes Vendor Confirmed: Yes
|
Version(s): 10.5.5 and prior versions

Description:
A vulnerability was reported in Mac OS X rlogin. A remote user may be able to access the target system.
A flaw in rlogind may cause 'hosts.equiv' entries to apply to root logins, even though the manpage indicates that entries do not apply to the root account. As a result, if rlogin is enabled and systems are specified in 'hosts.equiv', a root user on the remote system (or a user able to spoof the remote system) may be able to access the target system with root privileges.
rlogin is not enabled by default.
Ralf Meyer reported this vulnerability.
