|
Fix Available: Yes Vendor Confirmed: Yes

Version(s): 5.01 SP4, 6

Description:
Two vulnerabilities were reported in Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE). A remote user can cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target user's system.
The browser does not propelry process certain DHTML script function calls to incorrectly created elements [CVE-2006-5581].
The browser may attempt to access previously freed memory when handling script errors in certain situations [CVE-2006-5579].
A remote user can create specially crafted HTML that, when loaded by the target user, will trigger one of these memory corruption errors and execute arbitrary code on the target system. The code will run with the privileges of the target user.
Internet Explorer 7 is not affected.
Microsoft credits Jakob Balle and Carsten Eiram of Secunia Research with reporting the script error vulnerability and Sam Thomas and TippingPoint with reporting the DHTML script vulnerability.
