Description:
An input validation vulnerability was reported in MercuryBoard in the processing of private messages. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks.
The software does not properly validate the user-supplied 'title' field in the private message feature. A remote user can send a private message with a specially crafted title. Then, when the target user views the private message, arbitrary scripting code will be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the MercuryBoard software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.
Secunia Research reported this vulnerability.
