Description: Several vulnerabilities were reported in Microsoft Excel. A remote user can cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target user's system.
A remote user can create a specially crafted Excel file that, when loaded by the target user, will trigger a buffer overflow and
execute arbitrary code on the target system. The code will run with the privileges of the target user.
A specially crafted IMDATA
record, PALETTE record, column record, or other record or string can trigger the vulnerabilities.
Microsoft Office Excel 2007
and Microsoft Works Suite 2006 are not affected.
Microsoft credits Jeff Gennari of CERT, Jie Ma of Fortinet Security Research
Team, NSFocus Security Team, and Greg MacManus of iDefense Labs with reporting these vulnerabilities.

On January
18, 2007, Microsoft re-released the fix for Excel 2000 only. Excel 2000 users should reapply the update. The original fix for
Excel 2000 contained the proper security fix, but may have prevented files created in Korean, Chinese, or Japanese from opening.
The Microsoft blog entry regarding the re-release of the fix for Excel 2000 is available at:
