Description:  A vulnerability was reported in Microsoft Word. A remote user can cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target user's system.

A remote user can create a Word document with a specially crafted string that, when loaded by the target user, will trigger a buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system. The code will run with the privileges of the target user.

Office 2007, Office 2003, and Word 2003 Viewer are not affected.

The issue was originally reported to be limited to causing denial of service conditions.

McAfee reported this vulnerability.

Impact:  A remote user can create a file that, when loaded by the target user, will execute arbitrary code on the target user's system.
Solution:  The vendor has issued the following fixes (as part of a broader patch for Word that addresses other vulnerabilities, as well):
