Description:  A vulnerability was reported in Microsoft DirectX. A remote user can cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target user's system.

A remote user can create a specially crafted Synchronized Accessible Media Interchange (SAMI) file that, when loaded by the target user, will execute arbitrary code on the target system [CVE-2007-3901]. The code will run with the privileges of the target user.

Jun Mao of VeriSign iDefense Labs reported this vulnerability.

A remote user can create a specially crafted WAV or AVI file that, when loaded by the target user, will execute arbitrary code on the target system [CVE-2007-3895]. The code will run with the privileges of the target user.

Peter Winter-Smith of NGSSoftware reported this vulnerability.

The vulnerabilities resides in DirectShow.

Impact:  A remote user can create a file that, when loaded by the target user, will execute arbitrary code on the target user's system.

A restart may be required.

On July 16, 2008, Microsoft updated their bulletin to indicate that DirectX version 9.0a is also affected and that the fix for DirectX 9.0 also applies to DirectX 9.0a.
