Description: Several vulnerabilities were reported in Mozilla Firefox. A remote user can cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target user's system.
The JavaScript engine's garbage collection processes may use temporary variables that are not properly protected (rooted) [CVE-2006-0292,
CVE-2006-0293]. A remote user can create a specially crafted object containing a user-defined method that, when processed by the
garbage collection process, may corrupt memory and potentially execute arbitrary code. Thunderbird may also be affected if JavaScript
is enabled in mail [not the default configuration]. Igor Bukanov reported this vulnerability.
A remote user can create HTML
that will dynamically change the style of an element from position:relative to position:static to trigger a memory error and potentially
execute arbitrary code [CVE-2006-0294]. Version 1.5 is affected. Thunderbird version 1.5 may also be vulnerable if JavaScript
is enabled in mail [not the default configuration]. Martijn Wargers reported this vulnerability.
A remote user can create HTML
that invokes the QueryInterface() method of the built-in Location and Navigator objects to trigger a memory corruption error and
potentially execute arbitrary code [CVE-2006-0295]. Version 1.5 is affected. Thunderbird version 1.5 may be vulnerable if JavaScript
is enabled in mail [not the default configuration]. Georgi Guninski reported this vulnerability.
The XULDocument.persist() function
does not properly validate the user-supplied attribute name [CVE-2006-0296]. A remote user can create specially crafted HTML that
will inject XML into 'localstore.rdf'. The XML data (potentially including JavaScript commands) will be loaded when the browser
next starts up. Thunderbird may be vulnerable if JavaScript is enabled [not the default configuration]. moz_bug_r_a4 reported
this vulnerability.
The E4X, SVG, and Canvas features contain integer overflows [CVE-2006-0297]. A remote user may be able to
execute arbitrary code. Version 1.5 is affected. Thunderbird version 1.5 may be vulnerable if JavaScript is enabled in mail [not
the default configuration]. Georgi Guninski reported this vulnerability.
The XML parser may read data from locations beyond
the end of the buffer [CVE-2006-0298]. As a result, the browser may crash. The vendor was not certain if it is possible for private
data to be incorporated into the DOM of an XML document. Version 1.5 is affected. Johnny Stenback reported this vulnerability.
The
E4X implementation's internal "AnyName" object is incorrectly available to web content [CVE-2006-0299]. Two cooperating domains
could use this object as a communication channel to bypass same-origin restrictions. Version 1.5 is affected. Thunderbird version
1.5 may be vulnerable if JavaScript is enabled in mail [not the default configuration]. Brendan Eich reported this vulnerability.
|
Impact: A remote user can create HTML that, when loaded by the target user, will cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target user's system with the privileges of the target user.
|
Solution: The vendor has issued a fixed version (1.5.0.1).
