Fix Available: Yes
Vendor Confirmed: Yes

Version(s): 1.0.0 - 1.2.10

Description: A vulnerability was reported in Asterisk. A remote user can execute arbitrary code on the target system.
A remote user can send a specially crafted audit endpoint (AUEP) response message to trigger a stack overflow in the MGCP implementation
and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Also, if an administrator uses a parameter that contains user-defined values
as a filename input to the Record() function, code execution may be possible.
The vendor was notified on August 10, 2006.
The
Mu Security research team discovered these vulnerabilities.

Impact: A remote user can execute arbitrary code on the target system.
|
Solution: The vendor has issued a patch for the buffer overflow vulnerability, available at:
http://ftp.digium.com/pub/asterisk/asterisk-1.2.11-patch.gz
The
report advises that users can protect against the Record() vulnerability by not using user-controlled variables (e.g., ${CALLERIDNAME})
as part of the filename argument.
