A remote user can also send specially crafted DNS data to trigger a buffer overflow in the Windows DNS client layer and execute arbitrary code on the target system. The code will run with the privileges of the target service.

Microsoft credits Peter Winter Smith of NGS Software with reporting the Winsock Hostname vulnerability and Mark Dowd of ISS X-Force with reporting the DNS Client Buffer Overrun vulnerability.
