Description:  A vulnerability was reported in Squid in the processing of authentication requests. A remote user can cause Squid to crash.

A remote user can supply an HTTP request with a specially crafted scheme in the authentication header to cause Squid to crash.

Mike Diggins reported this vulnerability.

Impact:  A remote user can cause the Squid process to crash.
Solution:  The vendor has issued a patch, available at:

http://www.squid-cache.org/Versions/v2/2.5/bugs/squid-2.5.STABLE10-NTLM-scheme_assert.patch

A patch is also available for 3.0.
