Original Entry Date:  Mar 4 2005

Description:  A vulnerability was reported in Sylpheed. A remote user may be able to execute arbitrary code on the target system in certain cases.

A remote user can send a message with specially crafted headers to the target user. Then, when the target user replies to the affected message, a buffer overflow may occur. It may be possible to execute arbitrary code, however, the report did not confirm this.

Certain headers containing non-ASCII characters can trigger the overflow.

Impact:  A remote user may be able to execute arbitrary code on the target user's system.

[Editor's note: The report did not confirm code execution.]
