Description:  A temporary file vulnerability was reported in 'HtmlHeadLine.sh'. A local user may be able to gain elevated privileges.

Debian reported that the script uses the '/tmp' directory as the download directory for temporary files. A local user can create a symbolic link (symlink) from a critical file on the system to a temporary file to be used by the script. Then, when the script is run, the symlinked file may be overwritten with the privileges of the user running the script.

The HtmlHeadLine.sh, START_HHL_30.sh, and START_HHL.sh scripts are affected.

Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pena is credited with discovering this flaw.

Impact:  A local user may be able to gain the privileges of a target user running the affected script.
Solution:  The most recent versions (32.9 and 33.8) include the option for the user to specify a safe, restricted temporary directory. Those versions are available at:
